This was my A Floral Fable Floral Art demonstration at The Capilano Flower Arranging club

Concept: A fable is a fictional story that features plants, animals, mythical creatures, inanimate objects or forces of nature which are given human qualities, and that illustrate a moral lesson.

Examples of fables are: The boy who cried wolf, The tortoise and the hare and The Emperor’s new clothes

The demonstration explores ways to add small floral details to tell your own floral fable or simply express yourself with floral art.

With every design I add I will demonstrate one concept, thought or idea and by just slightly changing a few of the floral ingredients the design flips over into its contrast.

I dressed a hazel twig wreath with tulips to show how you can create a thoughtful, restrained and meditative design and then alter it slightly to demonstrate a playful, youthful and exuberant design

At first all the plant material and flowers are curled up and hibernating inside the stacked twig nest and then the spring sun will chase away the clouds and warm up the forest floor.

I made a twig tree to hang the design elements from. First I demonstrated a trendy minimalist city design and then I change it slightly to demonstrate a softer rustic country garden design.

The moral of our forth fable is Never be afraid to go down a new road; you don’t know what great things it might lead to!
I demonstrated how a designer can use the romantic Victorian language of flowers, Floriography, to send a coded message.

Thank you to the members of The Capilano Flower Arranging club- not only for your friendship but for inviting me to demonstrate. It was such a fun evening!
Thank you, Cindy Goodman for attending the demonstration and taking the photographs featured on the North Shore News website

and Nicholas Pescod, who is a reporter at the North Shore News, for the interview and article that was in the newspaper.

The demonstration favors were Boutbuddy Magnet Stix supplied by Nancy. It is an amazingly versatile little corsage magnet- and I often use it to solve tricky design problems. You will notice quite a few of the demonstration tutorials include Boutbuddies.
A special thank you to Boutbuddy Magnet Stix- everyone at the demonstration was so inspired by the magnets!

As the name suggest the Boutbuddy (or Boutstix in the USA) is designed to secure corsages, boutonnieres and body flower designs without needing to use pins, wire or glue. It really is the Stix part that makes it so great to design with. One of the pair of magnets is encased in a 3cm long green plastic stick that can be taped directly to a flower stem to create almost instant corsages.
