This was my A Floral Fable Floral Art demonstration at The Capilano Flower Arranging club

Concept: A fable is a fictional story that features plants, animals, mythical creatures, inanimate objects or forces of nature which are given human qualities, and that illustrate a moral lesson.

Examples of fables are: The boy who cried wolf, The tortoise and the hare and The Emperor’s new clothes

I begin all four designs in the same Fairy-tale Forest: made of moss, twigs and bark.
Structures or armatures for Floral Art.
That is the basic ingredients.
The demonstration explores ways to express yourself with floral art
The demonstration explores ways to add small floral details to tell your own floral fable or simply express yourself with floral art.

With every design I add I will demonstrate one concept, thought or idea and by just slightly changing a few of the floral ingredients the design flips over into its contrast.
Here is a link to the mechanics and the Floral Art structures, constructions and armatures used in the demonstration A Floral Fable Design demonstration Floral Art Structures

The moral of our first fable is: You can change your mood as fast as you can change your mind.
I dressed a hazel twig wreath with tulips to show how you can create a thoughtful, restrained and meditative design and then alter it slightly to demonstrate a playful, youthful and exuberant design

Floral Fable Floral Art demonstration colour design.
The moral of our second fable is that colour can make you super cool or smoking hot
At first all the plant material and flowers are curled up and hibernating inside the stacked twig nest and then the spring sun will chase away the clouds and warm up the forest floor.

Floral Fable country to city chic design.
The moral of our third fable is that our approach to things changes how we see the world
I made a twig tree to hang the design elements from. First I demonstrated a trendy minimalist city design and then I change it slightly to demonstrate a softer rustic country garden design.

Floral art demonstration Floral Fable floriography.
The moral of our forth fable is Never be afraid to go down a new road; you don’t know what great things it might lead to!
I demonstrated how a designer can use the romantic Victorian language of flowers, Floriography, to send a coded message.

Demonstration gifts supplied by Boutbuddy.
The demonstration favors were Boutbuddy Magnet Stix supplied by Nancy. It is an amazingly versatile little corsage magnet- and I often use it to solve tricky design problems. You will notice quite a few of the demonstration tutorials include Boutbuddies.

A special thank you to Boutbuddy Magnet Stix- everyone at the demonstration was so inspired by the magnets!
As the name suggest the Boutbuddy (or Boutstix in the USA) is designed to secure corsages, boutonnieres and body flower designs without needing to use pins, wire or glue. It really is the Stix part that makes it so great to design with. One of the pair of magnets is encased in a 3cm long green plastic stick that can be taped directly to a flower stem to create almost instant corsages.

About me

This is my ongoing creative workbook to research and capture design projects and techniques. You will mostly find ideas for floral art but I will also include some other projects such as gift packaging, cards and even cake decorating with a few lifestyle projects arranged in between.

Everything you see in this workbook was designed, made and photographed by me, unless specific credit is given to another designer.
